Gwyneth Paltrow- Highly Acclaimed Award-Winning Actress

gwyneth paltrow
I don’t look at other actresses and think, 7 wish I had that life.’ Because I now realize how thoroughly uninteresting an actor’s life can be. They don’t read the paper, they don’t take the subway, they don’t go to museums.

Gwyneth Paltrow
First eyed by the public as the willowy blond girlfriend of heartthrob Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow soon proved she was more than just a tagalong beauty. For at the young age of twenty-six she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her part as the exuberantly in love and decermined Viola in the highly acclaimed film Shakespeare in Love. The talented Paltrow was now admired for her skill as well as her elegant looks.
Born on September 28, 1972, Gwyneth Kate and her younger brother, Jake, lived charmed early years as the children of Tony Award-winning actress BIythe Danner and the late producer-director Bruce Paltrow of St. Ehewhere fame. While they were Los Angeles inhabitants, their summers were spent in Massachusetts’s Berkshire Mountains at the acclaimed Williamstown Theater, where Danner performed. At a young age Gwyneth was intrigued with acting and got her first part at Wiiliamstown at the age of five.
While still young, Gwyneth visited many movie sets, which added to her interest in acting. Her parents made sure Gwyneth also learned as much about the nonacting world as she could, encouraging exploration of cultural pursuits and a variety of activities. Though both parents had careers, the Paltrow family was very close and remains that way today. Gwyneth felt that her mother put her family ahead of her career, and she feels the same way about her own career and family relationships. Gwyneth is known as someone who is generous with friends, many of whom she has remained close to fot years.
The Paltrow family moved to Manhattan when Gwyneth was eleven, and she was enrolled in the distinguished all-girls Spence School. She acted in some plays and also joined Triple Trio, a singing group that had no musical accompaniment. Her voice was said to be the best in the bunch, yet she remained more interested in acting. Gwyneth headed back to the West Coast in 1990, enrolling at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she studied art history. Yet her time there was short-lived. In the summer of 1991 she costatred with her mother in the play Picnic at the Williamstown Theater. Receiving strong reviews for her role, Gwyneth decided to pursue acting full time.
In 1991 Paltrow appeared in her first film, a small role in Shout starring John Travolta. Connections helped Paltrow early on in her career. When she heard that the family’s good friend Steven Spielberg was still searching for a Wendy to act in his Peter Pan movie Hook (1991), she easily convinced him to give her the part. In 1992 she tried television, costarring in the miniseries Cruel Doubt. After she was cast in the miniseries, she found that her mother would be costarring as well. Though pleased to be working with her mother again, Paltrow was also concerned about people thinking she was getting parts because of her family ties rather than her own talent. By 1993 Paltrow had small but significant roles in the films Malice, with Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman, and Flesh and Bone, with James Caan. By 1995 she had gotten the opportunity to demonstrate her talent, appearing in such films as Jefferson in Paris, Moonlight and Valentino, and Seven. While working on Seven, Paltrow and her cos tar Brad Pitt fell in love. The couple quickly became one of Hollywood’s hottest pairs.. They became engaged in December 1996 but broke up the following year. Paltrow said they could not envision working on a good marriage and strong careers at the same time.
Paltrow was seen as a rising star, but was not getting much work. Her real opportunity came when she starred in Jane Austen’s Emma (1996) and started a partnership with Miramax films that landed her the title “first lady of Miramax.” Concerned about being typecast, Paltrow then took on the role of a prostitute in Hard Eight and played Pip’s unrequited love in Great Expectations.
Seeing independent films as more suited to her, Paltrow then acted in Sliding Doors before starring in her most critically acclaimed role in the seven-time Academy Award-winner Shakespeare in Love. During the year leading up to the 1999 Academy Awards, the actress had been working on her next movie, The Talented Mr. Ripley, in Italy. This was at a time when Paltrow longed to be near her family, as her father was seriously ill with cancer and her paternal grandfather was very sick as well. While quite distressed, the actress was intent on maintaining professionalism and remained devoted to her work. Paltrow revealed her worries only to director John Madden. In 1999, after winning the Academy Award for her role’in Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow took a complete break, staying in bed for ten days.
Ironically her next role was in a movie entitled Bounce, which she agreed to star in only a month later. She costarred with Ben Affleck. Following this film, which Paltrow felt was more important for Affleck’s career than her own, she costarred in the comedy Duets, which her father directed. She made a cameo appearance in her friend and screenwriter Caroline Doyle’s independent film Intern and costarred as an overweight woman in Shallow Hal, donning a special suit that made her appear about 200 pounds heavier. Just after finishing the filming, Paltrow showed her thin, long naked body in Harper’s Bazaar.
